Become a mentor

Bridging Hearts & Horses is built on one simple truth: consistent, caring adults change lives.

Our mentors commit to walking alongside one child or teen, week after week, offering stability, encouragement, and a healthy relationship. This is not a drop-in volunteer role. It is a meaningful mentorship grounded in presence, patience, and connection.

Quick Facts
  • No experience necessary
  • 1-1.5 hours a week
  • Training & support provided

What Mentors Do
Mentors are matched one-on-one with a youth participant and a specific horse. Together, they meet for one hour each week, forming a steady partnership over time.
As a mentor, you will:
  • Build a trusting relationship with one youth
  • Guide weekly activities alongside a horse
  • Support the development of life skills such as communication, emotional regulation, and responsibility
  • Model healthy boundaries, consistency, and empathy
  • Offer encouragement without pressure or judgment
You do not need to be a therapist or a horse expert. You need to be dependable, open to learning, and committed to showing up.

Who Makes a Good Mentor
Our strongest mentors are adults (21+)  who:
  • Value consistency and follow-through
  • Are patient, calm, and emotionally aware
  • Can listen without trying to fix or rescue
  • Respect children as individuals with their own pace of growth
  • Are comfortable learning alongside a horse
Prior horse experience is not required. All mentors receive training and ongoing support.

Commitment & Support
Mentors commit to a consistent weekly session and understand that reliability matters. For many youth, this may be one of the few predictable relationships in their life.
We provide:
  • Initial training and orientation
  • Ongoing guidance and support
  • A structured program framework
  • A community that values safety, growth, and integrity
You will never be expected to navigate challenges alone.

Why Mentorship Matters Here
This program is not about fixing children. It is about offering them a healthy relationship where learning happens naturally.
Horses respond honestly to human behavior, which makes them powerful partners in teaching awareness, patience, and trust. With the guidance of a steady mentor, youth gain skills that extend far beyond the barn.

Ready to Learn More?
If you are looking for a volunteer role where your presence truly matters, we invite you to explore becoming a mentor.

Your consistency could be the bridge that helps a young person build confidence, resilience, and hope.
